Hussain Atfah Vocal & Oud
Hussain Atfah is a Syrian tenor and musician whose artistic path bridges the musical heritage of the Middle East with European classical traditions. Born in Syria, he was immersed early in the spiritual depth of Arabic music, influenced by Sufi chanting and Quranic recitation—foundations of his expressive vocal identity.
He began playing the oud, which introduced him to maqam theory and the complex structures of Eastern, particularly Arabic, music. He studied music education and classical singing at the University of Homs, graduating in 2013, then moved to Damascus to deepen his skills in vocal performance and broaden his knowledge of both Eastern and Western music theory.
In 2016, Atfah moved to Germany to study at the National Institute of Music in Lübeck. There, he earned his bachelor’s degree in classical singing with distinction and studied piano as a secondary instrument. He later completed his master’s degree at the same institution in 2020.
Atfah is known for his ability to blend the emotional richness of Arabic music with the precision of Western classical technique. He has performed at major venues in Germany, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Bonn Theater, Malmö Theater, Berlin Philharmonie, and Beethoven Hall in Stuttgart.
In addition to his solo work, he has collaborated with leading ensembles such as Lucidarium, the Asambura Ensemble, and the Ornina Syrian Orchestra (OSO), contributing to projects that merge heritage with contemporary expression.
Hussain Atfah continues to shape a unique artistic voice—rooted in tradition, refined through study, and expressed with authenticity and elegance.
